"I DON´T REALLY KNOW; I JUST KNOW THAT´S HOW IT HAPPENED".

I started photographing in 1995. And that's 25 years later...!

It all started on a trip to Europe. I had bought a second-hand camera from a friend five years earlier and used it on my first international trip. A plastic Canon with a fixed lens and a terrible parallax shift that had to be corrected "by eye". And movies. Lots of films!

When I got back, the people at the store where I developed the films praised some of the photos (others were awful, I confess). I showed these better photos to friends and family who really liked them. One of these photos ended up in a frame in another friend's office, while others are still on the wall at home.

And that's how photography came into my life as another hobby (just like music and literature). I bought books on the subject, took tips from professional photographers, and progressed in this art while working in the financial area, in which I already had a degree and had been working since 1990.

When I decided to travel to Colombia in 2008, I ended up buying a small Sony Cybershot. Compact, light and with a fixed Carl Zeiss lens. Very good for street photography. With it I travelled around the country, visited 6 cities and took pictures that still bring back fond memories. So much so that I still use it!

Two years later I had the chance to visit Quebec and there I bought my first DSRL, a Nikon D3000. For the first time I was able to change lenses, add filters and experiment with some alternatives when recording a trip.

That year I met my wife, who also came from the corporate world. With a degree in Tourism and a post-graduate degree in Marketing, Elaine was first and foremost an amateur with a passion for photography and travel. More than incredible equipment (she had a simple Casio Elixim digital camera), she already showed a sensitivity for telling stories through images.

From 2011 to 2017 we travelled together on several occasions in and outside Brazil and our interest in photography and the tourism industry only grew.

It grew so much that books and videos on the subject were no longer enough. Then, in 2018, we decided to take a professional course in the field. And that changed the pace of our plans.

We had been thinking of photography as a plan B for retirement, but we were so taken with it that we took a sabbatical in 2019 to structure our new career and decided to bring forward the plans for this plan B.

n 2019 we added to our work equipment a Nikon DSRL D750, a Sony Mirrorless Alpha 6000 (excellent for video!), several Nikkor and Sony lenses, as well as the award-winning Sigma Art DG HSM which is exceptional for architecture and landscapes, Manfrotto tripods, filters, Godox flashes and a lot of other "cool stuff"! The library's photography section grew by more than 30 titles and the professional photographers' diploma came out of the oven from the Omicron School of Photography.

One of our graduation projects received an honourable mention at the Brasília Foto Show, the largest popular photography festival in Brazil.

With the new cameras we created images for portfolios, travelled and at the beginning of 2020, just before the pandemic, Bravo! Fotografia was born, a company that embodied our shared passion for photography, the tourism and hospitality industry, architecture, gastronomy, travel and, above all, the art of telling good stories through images captured through the lens.

And in 2020, while the pandemic certainly delayed some actions we had in mind for the company, it also gave us time to take several other courses, structure internal workflows, professionally organize the administrative and financial areas (we had a long stint in the corporate world, remember?) and include new services to the company's menu, such as aerial photography with drones (a DJI drone joined our arsenal, allowing for new creative flights!) and the curation of images for our clients' marketing.

And so it was. Our passion for photographic storytelling began around the same time, more than a quarter of a century ago. This passion has been told through different lenses, which have helped us to refine our gaze, to see the world in a particular way and to be able today to help other entrepreneurs tell the stories of their own products and services through images.

What about you? What story would you like to tell us, so that we could translate it into images?

Book a coffee and tell us.
